AliBaba just put a ton of money into app-search engine Quixey. $50 million. First, that’s an important move, so watch them further. Second, that shows an interest in app discovery, which may make the market hotter (relevant or not). #WowALotOfMoney

Lockheed-Martin furloughed 3000 workers due to the US government shutdown. I’m sure we’ll be posting more if this drags on, so keep watching the layoffs. #DamnThatsBad

There’s a new financial scandal on the horizon dealing with foreign market manipulation. Yeah, just what we need now. This is LIBOR-level and could be another blow to the world economy and trust, so . . . yeah this is a depressing roundup. #ReallyAgain

Seventh Sanctum Update 10/5/2013

To put it simply – the site is now migrated to the new Bootstrap-wrapped design. As far as I can tell it’s done, completed, and ready for testing. Well more testing, migrating over the generators required I validate each, and now my head is filled with random.

Next up I’m going to take a little bit of a break because . . . well yeah, this has been my spare time for about a week and a half, and I haven’t had much of that. Then there’s going to be some testing, and finally, migration. Just remember after the migration I’m really going to need feedback!

If there’s one concern I have it’s that right now the site’s appearance on phones is kinda “meh.” It works, but the branding is off and the control panel scales too big. Admittedly I don’t think that’s a huge deal, but still I’d like to make it better.

What’s up for today?

In the Great White North, Saskatchewan cable companies are losing young people to online TV. Not sure a cable company is your best career target depending.
Good advice for people who want to write a big Hollywood film. This isn’t about saving the cat, this is real advice. Read it.
More Twitter news: they have two purchases, and are picking a Head of News. So quick lessons 1) They’re willing to grow by buying and that may be your company, 2) They’re aware of their public image and need to interface with media. The twitter post IPO won’t be the twitter you know.
I’m no introvert, but I know some of us are. If you are, here’s a guide to growing your personal brand.
Android is more secure than it gets credit for. Something to be aware of if you’re an Android developer.
It’s not exactly Applied Geekery, but Fox is renewing the batshit crazy show “Sleepy Hollow.” It also sounds like they’re going for uninterrupted, smaller seasons which could be interesting – after all TV needs to adapt to unique new competitors and contributions. I’m biased as I enjoy the show.
