Cooking Healthy: Do the Numbers

I get asked about healthy cooking now and then since I’m kind of obsessed with it. And by that I mean actually cooking healthy and delicious, which really isn’t too hard once you get into the swing of it.

The thing is that healthy cooking often involves goals, even if the goal is “eat less crap” (since you measure your crap-consumption numerically once you figure them out). That can make the situation boring or confusing as you juggle proteins, sodium, meal counts, and the like.

However, it’s really pretty simple – you just need to look at the right numbers.

Comics

DC forbids writers from having Batwoman marry her girlfriend (after she proposes).  Writers leave. JH Williams III and W. Haden Black are out, and more details are at the link.

In general I’m thinking DC has a problem period.  New 52 has had a lot of issues, weird changes, and doesn’t seem fully accepted by the geek community.  This choice just makes the look worse, especially after the hiring of notoriously anti-gay Orson Scott Card – and his anti-gay stances are just the tip of the iceberg.

I’d put DC on your list of companies to be very cautious about when it comes to working with them – and see what other meltdowns may occur.

Publishing:

Oyster wants to be a Netflix for books.  It just appears to be limited to the iPhone and doesn’t have the latest stuff.  We’ll see where it goes.  However, it if works we writers are going to need to figure how/if we want to get in on this.

Video Games:

Irrational studio was behind the hit Bioshock:Infinite.  A shame about those layoffs.  I’ll avoid my usual game industry rant.

China:

Even Baidu is getting in on SmartTV.  This is going to cease to be a trend and just be a norm at this rate.  So who’s next?

Internet Propaganda battle?  China’s president wants one and is sounding awful insular (and in campaign mode).  Could be interesting, and is another case showing how publicity and internet awareness affects politics – makes me wonder if they’ll try news channels as well.

Demographics:

People leaving California are affecting the politics of where they move.  Interesting little demographic tidbit there that provides some insight on what mobility means for politics.

Film:

Indie director Randy Moore filmed his psychological horror film Escape From Tomorrow – where a man who’s just been fired starts to hallucinate while visiting Disney World – in the actual Disney parks without permission. He took the results to Sundance and found a distributor, which is now publicizing the film with a poster featuring a bloody Mickey Mouse hand and the trademark Disney font. Which is pretty much triple dog daring the House of Mouse to file a lawsuit – thus guaranteeing the film and its director ultimate publicity.

Maker:

100 makers you should be following on Twitter.

Video Games:

Paid storage for your Pokemon – online?  Oh come on guys, just give us the MMO.  You know you want to.  Actually, worth seeing what Nintendo does with this because I do think Pokemon is inching towards PSO/MMO type gaming.  At that point Nintendo can just sit back and make money forever.
