Learn From Other Geeks

I like to use the things I geek out over in my career, which is somewhat obvious by the fact I help run a blog about the very subject.  I'm a big advocate that hobbies, jobs, and interests really should be mostly the same thing.

However, it's too easy to get caught up in our own obsessions, our own geeky, our own fanning.  Sure we can learn a lot from our obsession with video games, our passion for digital art, and our interest in writing.

However if you really want to be a passionate fan-to-pro type you need to study the geekery of others.

The Last Failbender

OK, let me put it simply:

  1. The Last Airbender film sounds like a dismal mess.
  2. I haven't seen it, so my commentary is based more on the reactions I've seen and what I think they mean.
  3. Whenever I do see it, I somehow doubt even if I enjoy it, it'll change much of #2.

So, let us ask, progeek and profan-wise, what the incredibly bad reviews and dismal reception for the Last Airbender film mean for future media endeavors.  This is a big enough flop, that I think it bears analysis.

So let's break this down into things I'm sure about and think are possible, and are unsure about.

A iTunes hacking scam to raise the profile of a book (which was taken down by the sysops), may raise a few questions about Apple technology. Me, I think it won't, it merely shows the complexities faces.

Video Games:
PC gaming poised for a comeback? Epic's VP Mark Rein thinks so. What do you think?

Looks like Nintendo has no plans to develop for Apple iOSes. Considering the rivalry in mobile space, I'm not surprised. Let's see if this continues . . . but right now if you're an iOS developer, no space at Nintendo for you.
