Are You Suffering Idea Burnout?

You have plenty of ideas.  They keep coming to you – ideas for books, your job, your business.  People are jealous of your imagination and all that it produces, in awe of your imagination, or just wonder "where it all comes from."

What these people don't get is that there's a darkside to a powerful imagination.  You have too many ideas, and it can be distracting.  You can't apply them all.  You worry you're going to miss the "right one"

Frustration Friday: Lawsuits from the Sweet Spot

So, as usual we hear about various lawsuits in IT this week.  Ironically I could be writing this column any week in the past decade and you could be nodding your head.  For that matter, for all you know I wrote this column two years ago – and I'm still right.

So, anyway, the usual IT lawsuits are flying about, it seems like there's quite an extensive web of them, especially in mobile IT as of late.  This company sues that company over patents, this company sues another, etc.  It's like a very strange game of tag, where everyone gets to be it.

Now it's too easy to dismiss these lawsuits as being about greed, stupidity, or both, but I'd like to suggest that we keep another reason for the constant Technical Law Suit Tsunamis that we progeeks see and wring our hands over.

Don’t Define Your Career In Negatives

I'm certain you've been asked by others (and asked yourself), what your career is 'about" or "what you do."  If you haven't, chances are you're reading this blog by accident.

Anyway, when you're asked (or ask yourself) that question, I'm sure you can spout forth a list.  There's what you do, who you interact with, and what you don't do.  We often are aware of the former, but I find people will often go into lists of what they don't do, what their career is not about, with surprising ease.  It's almost as if we are more aware of the positives than the negatives.
