Site Update 6/24/2013

Man been awhile since I did these, huh?  I have to get better at it.  So where are we?

First of all, my next book project started.  I’m going to be returning to some past projects, let’s just say, and you’ll see some things in a new way.  And yes, it will result in a new book I think you’ll enjoy.

Still debating over another Focused Fandom book.  And I know, I know, everyone would like to see one on writing, but I’m reluctant since that can be a cluster of issues and focus problems.  Yes, I’m being overcautious!

I’ve just finished some resume coaching, and it appears my client is happy, so remember I do that as well!

I just dived into Bootstrap for the first time – I’m going to be using it to rewrite the front end of Seventh Sanctum.  That’s still a few months from completion, but so far it’s pretty powerful.

I’m also going to try and consolidate the Seventh Sanctum blog here – not sure I can pull it off, but let’s see how it goes . . .

As you’ve seen I’m trying to get back to posting recipes.  It’s quite enjoyable, and I know people would like more of my general cooking tips.  Let’s see how the time goes.

Finally, there’s going to be a big career announcement soon, so stay tuned!

That’s it for me!  What have you got?

Curry Diary 6/23/2013: Milestone Curry #2

Well this is unexpected.

Right after posting my Milestone Curry, I did a slight change of cooking – and it advanced how the Japanese Curry I’ve been working on for ages tastes.  In fact, it’s a significant change that I want to note here because it’s very educational.

In the last iteration of the Curry, I added Maple Syrup to the broth.  In this case I add it right to the roux and roast it along with the other ingredients   This roasting/carmelization adds a richer taste, makes a thicker sauce, and actually seems to amplify the tastes.

As I look at various curries, a surprising amount of odd things go right into the roux.  I think next I may need to try the cocoa powder earlier.

Anyway, on to the recipe – and there are some changes in how it’s put together.

Gear Up For Some Space Opera

My friend Serdar has been working on his latest book, Flight of the Vajra, for awhile.  I recently helped him edit it, and he’s released Chapter Zero to whet your appetite.

Go read it.  Because, trust me, this book is good.

I edited it, and after awhile, I didn’t really feel like I was doing work.  It’s a compelling novel of what I like to call “Hard Space Opera,” a space opera tale that has a lot of serious, thought-provoking elements and a wild cast.  From a genius spacecraft engineer with a cache of illegal technology, to spiritual leader with a very complex burden, to a gender-shifting singer, you’ll meet a lot of complicated characters.  You don’t even know everyone’s plans or motivations until the last few pages of the book, and you don’t know everyone’s fate much the same way.

It also covers a lot of interesting issues of technology, transhumanism, space travel, life, and death.  I was constantly intrigued, surprised, and asking questions.

So go and check it out – then wait for the book.  Trust me, it’s worth it.
