Pro-Active Networking – Get out ahead of them Networking-wise!
Use That Living Room – Give them crash space on your couch!
Help With Their Resume – Help them get their resume right!
Be Ready For Networking – Make sure you’re ready ahead of time, and get them ready as well!
Invite them – Bring them into projects you’re doing!
Fansourcing – Give them some work, fansourcing-style!
Networking Jam – Time to get busy with networking!
Research – Help Them With Research!
Sharing Resources – Share your job search resources (they’re not as obvious as you think!).
Visiting Time – Put someone up for a visit to scout out your area!

Fandom And Hard Work

Ever see someone really go full bore into their hobby or geeky interests? Ever see someone spent days making a cosplay? Ever watch someone write an epic fanfic? Fans, geeks, and otaku are very, very industrious people – and if you don't believe me, I can tell you a few stories about sports fans that'd amaze you . . .

One of the many virtues of fans is that they work very hard at what they love. Sure we know it – we do it. However though we know it, we don't always appreciate it.

I think it's important to appreciate it – and appreciate what it means career-wise.

I Have a Job, They Don’t: Visiting TIme

I'm big on relocation – having moved across a country to do it – and because let's face it, economic opportunities (and the recovery) aren't uniform across the nation – or a state, or the world. Sometimes you have to do it – now more than ever.

Of course is a location right for you – or for, say, a friend or family member looking to move there? the best way to go is to A) know someone there, and B) visit them.

You see where this is going.

However, if you don't see it, here's something I advise – and have done. Find that person engaged in a job search, and put them up for a short time (say a week or two) to scout the area you live out.
