Thoughts on Technology, Geekery, And The Change in What Wait Time Is

I now see waiting time a lot differently.  Those times at the dentists office or the train station?  They're no longer annoying, or where I try to figure out what have to do with myself.  They're productive times.

Why? Because I have a Smartphone.  I have a computer that just happens to make phone calls.  I can spend that time reading, checking email, updating people, and more. I think of my wait time far differently now than I did a few weeks ago

Why Do We Have Such A Creative Explosion on Mobile and DLC?

(I'm still thinking about DLC and mobile content as of late.  Blame my new Android.)

I sort through the DLC on my console and am amazed at what's there (and at times appalled, but mostly amazed).  I look through the online store on my smartphone and am overwhelmed with choices.  When it comes to books the content available to me, especially via eBooks is stunning.

It seems that, media, software, and gamewise we're in a kind of explosion of creativity and productivity.  There's just a huge amount of stuff everywhere – often good stuff – that we can download, play, read, or listen too.

Why Retro Games Are More Than Just ‘Here To Stay’

On my Android phone (yes, I finally got one) I'm playing an old-school JPRG/Legend of Zelda type game  and 80's shooter homage.

On the Kindle you can play old-school text adventures.

It seems our more advanced mobile technology is putting old school gaming back in people's hands (mostly literally).  Yes, now with the technology of the 21st century you can go back and play games just like you did 30 years ago.  I say this without an intense sense of irony because it's actually a trend with multiple factors we progeeks want to keep track of because it's more than retro – it's cultural and technical.
