Well OK I guess this IS a trend.  Are Links back?  Probably.

Culture:

Hackers of the renaissance.  The hacker ideal is older than we’d expect.  OK, actually the hacker ethic got named later, but you get the idea.  Filled with amusing information.

Technology:

Samsung to introduce a watch-phone.  Dick Tracy jokes aside this is kind of interesting.  I think the smartwatch idea is probably a wash, but as a phone replacement/integration I can see some possibility and I have faith in Samsung.

Patch starts its layoffs.  No one is surprised.

Shocking News: X-Box One Designed To be An Everything Console

Yeah, we already knew this.

However, as cynical as I may sound, this article also explores a bit more of why it is one and what technology – that we may not appreciate – is part of it.  For instance, I never thought about the fan or the “non-look” of the device.

A worthwhile read – and yeah, it’s obvious we know where this is going next.  I hear it plays games to . . .

It’s The Living Room

So as I noted earlier, with the Chromecast and Google’s Hangout box, it’s obvious Google is making a play for the Living Room. This is not surprising, since Microsoft is also making a play for the living room (and the office equivalent) with the XBox One to the point they kinda forgot the whole gaming thing until the criticisms came in.

The living room appears to be the next big device battlefield. Well, the Smart Watch as well, but even after some discussions I’m still not sold it’ll be a battlefield as much as the site of a Pyrrhic non-Victory.

I actually think the living is a valid area for tech companies to target, and wanted to explore that a bit.
