Way With Worlds – Disaster Response

It’s out! Disaster Response and Worldbuilding, the fourth and probably last book in my mini-miniseries on disasters and worldbuilding! The 22nd book in the series and the 19th minibook!

This represents something that was new to the Way With Worlds series – specific, connected theming on consecutive books. It just kind of happened, and then . . well I ended up with four books. Go figure.

This mini-miniseries is also one I’m proud of. Between grounded cargo ships, covid, climate change, and more I’m pretty sure even more writers are thinking about incorporating disasters into their writing. In turn, that means I want to be there to gently prod them with “have you asked these questions?”

They’re not “of the time,” but inspired by the time. Which means I expect them to have the same value as other books down the road, but I will gladly admit the inspiration.

So what’s next is at least one more book in the series, then probably a pause. At 20 small books and 2 large ones I’ve got to consider things like compendiums, second editions, and even moving the minibooks to print.

But this mini-miniseries is one I’m proud of. Maybe once I decide on next steps others may come . . .

Steve’s Update 5/30/2022

(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com, Steve’s Tumblr, and Pillowfort.  Find out more at my newsletter, and all my social media at my linktr.ee)

Brutal few weeks with all the bad stuff in the news, but there’s progress being made!

The Way With Worlds series: Not doing anything on this until Q3 for the final book in the “Disaster series.” The cover conversion went on hold a bit for a rough few weeks, still plan to have the covers (if not the books) ready this year.

“Think Agile, Write Better”: I have the outline back from people, and I’ve re-edited it! It’s really improved and I will start writing this week or next! Thanks to everyone who helped!

The Seventh Sanctum rewrite: I’m now doing test launches – which is a bit of a pain because I’m dealing with some directory and access juggling. I need that so I can switch over and have fallback. On the other hand check out the beta at www.PageOfGenerators.com.

Social Media Realignment: With the future of Twitter still unpredictable, this is going in fits and starts. I’ve got a big list of things I want to do, which probably means “sit down for a week as my major focus and do them.”

The Compendium of Writing Advice: Going to set this aside until the Sanctum is launched I think. Just too much on my mind.

Steve’s Update 8/22/2021

(This column is posted at www.StevenSavage.com and Steve’s Tumblr.  Find out more at my newsletter.)

First, I’m back to a lot of giveaways:

A School of Many Futures grammar check is done, so now it’s assembling the core document and final tweaks. Then I have to break up the chapters. Still on schedule, but this assembly part seems boring (and I have to check hundreds of pages of formatting).

“The Agile Writer’s Mindset” is coming along, at least in my head. The idea is a more “template-driven” guide than Agile Creativity. I want something where different lessons follow different patterns.

The Way With Worlds series still not back until November. Sorry.

The Seventh Sanctum rewrite looks good. I have four more generators to fix up then it’s on to full conversion and test deploys!
