Amazon Enters Comic Market

With their own imprint.

I’m actually surprised it took this long, and it sounds like they’re bringing in some heavy hitters.

I also figure it won’t take long for them to combine this with their fanfic options, CreateSpace, etc.  It’s just them entering a logical market.

Of course this also puts them in competition with a lot of others out there, especially e-comics.

Sounds like they put the pedal to the metal and made it happen, writing rather hot eBook romances.  An interesting tale to say the least, and all other questions aside, could this be done without rapid deployment of books?

Is the Future Of E-Publishing Genre Fiction

Publishers sure think so!

A few thoughts:

  • I don’t think anonymity is part of this.  Maybe it’s me living in the Bay Area, but I’ve seen people reading some pretty “supposedly shameful” stuff.
  • I think the immediacy is an issue – as is the low price.
  • I also think this fits more of a consumer model for things that people want fast but aren’t worried about having a physical version of.
